Holiday Tree '08

If you didn't hear by now, Sarah and I won first place in the door decoration contest for my apartment. The prize was a gift card to Barnes and Noble. This was on top of winning a Pizza Hut gift card, Dave & Busters gift card and a bottle of Chardonnay. Also, I still have a $100 gift card I got for "finding" my apartment on Rent.com. Merry Christmas.

Gingerbread Door

Look, now it has windows! And it's not throwing up marshmallows!

The judging is Thursday, I'll let you know if my friend Sarah and I won. As no one else seems to have decorated their door, the outlook is good.

My Free Dinner

Every Wednesday night some coworkers gather at a local bar. I hadn't been in a while, and when I did show up and saw almost no cars in the parking lot almost turned around and went back home (2 minutes away). Thank goodness I didn't!

I walked in and saw five people from my structural modules team who were about to leave to go to another bar, as apparently that's where everyone else was. When we got to the bar the hostess asked if we were with the Westinghouse party and directed us to a back room. Turns out it wasn't really a bar with a back room but a restaurant with a front bar. We modules people quickly realized that we totally crashed a non-modules Westinghouse party for the piping group and our Spanish design partners. We felt a little awkward, but when the waitress asked for our orders and directed us to the one table that was empty and conveniently had six seats, we decided to stay. I got filet mignon, red wine and chocolate mousse cake.

The guy who was in charge of the dinner party came over later and said, "What are you doing here?" We got nervous and tried to explain, "We didn't know ..." but it turned out he was just asking one of us why we were in the U.S. instead of China.

[That's a stock photo of filet mignon, and the turkeys below are from Google images, too. Sorry, I don't always have a chance to use my camera.]
